Isuzu Motors may be about to acquire General Motors Corp's midsize truck business.

According to Reuters, the Nikkei newspaper reported Isuzu's president, Susumu Hosoi, as saying that the Japanese car manufacturer apparently has no intention of taking over the entire unit.

American giant GM made the decision to divest its midsized-truck business as it was reported by the paper to be losing money on that part of its business and so approached Isuzu.

Isuzu's president was quoted as saying: "There won't be a full acquisition."

Although neither company was available for comment, it is thought that Isuzu is willing to cooperate if GM maintained a level of involvement.

According to the Nikkei newspaper, Isuzu may produce trucks and engines that GM would discontinue and both companies could cooperate in sales in North America.

Founded in 1916, Isuzu Motors has the longest history of any Japanese vehicle maker.ADNFCR-1221-ID-18863999-ADNFCR
