Understanding ISO/IEC 42001
ISO/IEC 42001 is a management system standard that provides a framework for organisations to govern and manage AI systems responsibly. Much like ISO/IEC 27001 addresses information security risks, ISO/IEC 42001 addresses AI-specific risks and opportunities.
The standard encompasses critical areas including:

- Comprehensive risk and impact assessments
- Transparency and explainability of AI systems

We want to be clear about our current status: we are aligned with ISO/IEC 42001, but not yet certified. Here's what that means in practice:
- We've implemented comprehensive policies, processes, governance structures, and controls that map to the requirements of ISO/IEC 42001.
- We've completed rigorous internal audits to verify that our AIMS meet the standard's intent.

As for certification, ISO/IEC 42001 is a very new standard, and formal certification schemes are still developing across the industry. We've chosen to lead rather than wait – building a robust framework now and positioning ourselves for formal certification as mature certification pathways become available.

As ISO/IEC 42001 certification programs mature, we'll evaluate the right timing and approach for pursuing formal certification.
